Services Director and Commissioning Manager

ETG was contracted by the main contractor, John Holland Fairbrother JV, in November 2019 to fill two roles on the project: Commissioning Manager, responsible for integrating and commissioning all building services in the hospital.

The K-Block at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) introduced several groundbreaking features:

  • A 19-bed dedicated adolescent unit with two safe rooms, a first for the RHH.

  • A helipad allowing rapid aeromedical retrieval.

  • State-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, including a public mobile CT scanner, previously unavailable at the RHH.

  • A robot for instrument sterilization, enhancing staff health and safety.

  • The first multi-place hyperbaric chamber in the southern hemisphere.

  • 14 theaters, isolation rooms, and CSSD facilities.

ETG conducted a comprehensive project review, identifying opportunities to streamline construction processes and integrate build and services teams. We quickly integrated with the client PM and IT teams, facilitating network operations through workshops and action lists. Our role encompassed managing overall commissioning, ICT validation, integration, training, and service handover. We also developed integrated test scripts for fire, ICT, and Blackstart.

We prioritized stakeholder engagement to enhance project delivery, coordinating work among multiple vendors, subcontractors, and clients to maximize productivity and minimize defects. Our efforts included extensive liaising and workshops with the client and FM teams for the existing facility, particularly regarding the new CEP and medical gas plant servicing the hospital.

With the involvement of ETG, we aim to deliver the best end result to the client.
